Chances were few and far between at Bloomfield Road

Blackpool stay out of the bottom three on goal difference with three games left to play after their goalless draw with Stoke City on Saturday.

Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones had the best chance of the game but he fired wide of an empty goal before the break.

Matt Phillips saw his low near-post volley well saved by Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic after half-time.

At the other end Matt Gilks did well to keep out Glenn Whelan’s 25-yard strike and later Jones’ point-blank header.

Blackpool looked to be heading into the relegation places but Leighton Baines’s late penalty for Everton against Wigan kept them out of the bottom three on goal difference, but only by a solitary goal.

But both bottom-placed West Ham and Wolves above them have games in hand which if they win will see them both climb out of trouble.

And with away trips to Tottenham and Manchester United to come as well as the visit of Bolton, Blackpool will know that they are in serious danger of going down, after a roller coaster debut season in the Premier League.
