Roy Hodgson will try and sign Andy Johnson for West Bromwich Albion in the summer, according to the Daily Mail.

During his time as Fulham manager, Hodgson signed Johnson from Everton for £10.5 million in 2008, but his stay at the club has been marred by injury problems which have seen him make just 72 appearances for the club, during which he has scored only 16 times.

However, before going to Fulham, Johnson had been a prolific striker, averaging around a goal every three games throughout a career which has seen him play for Birmingham, Crystal Palace, Everton and eight times for England.

According to the report, Hodgson is prepared to pay £3.5m for the 30-year-old striker who has just one year left on his contract.

The Baggies have had a surge in form since Hodgson took over in January and are now all but safe from relegation having reached the 40 point mark with five games still to play.

However, the experienced manager is believed to be looking for a new striker to partner Peter Odemwingie up front.

The Nigerian has scored 13 times in 29 appearances this season, but the next highest scorer for the club is midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu with five goals.
