Leeds coach Brian McDermott reckons there is still plenty more to come from Jamie Peacock and Danny McGuire.

Peacock, returning to the ground where his 2010 season was ended by a serious knee injury last August, set up a try for McGuire, who had made his comeback from a similar knee reconstruction four days earlier.

“It’s like there’s two Messiahs come back to rugby league with the amount of noise that’s been made about them,” said McDermott.

“They are both very influential people as well as world-class players but I reckon it’s going to be another three, maybe four weeks before we see the true Peacock and the true McGuire.”

Peacock was delighted to make a contribution to the Leeds’ team effort.

“It’s good to be back playing,” he said. “It was nice to have a good involvement in the game.

“It was something I spoke to Mac in the week about. I didn’t want to come back and just make the numbers up. That’s how I wanted to approach the game.”

Tigers coach Terry Matterson, whose side lost both games over Easter in dramatic fashion, was critical of referee Richard Silverwood’s decision to disallow two Cas scores for forward passes, but admitted his side were well beaten.

“It’s been a tough old seven days for us,” he said. “It was a game too far.

“We were wonderful (at St Helens) on Monday and there were some really good patches at the start today. A couple of tries got taken away from us. I thought they were genuine tries and there were a couple of dubious tries for them.

“To have those chalked off was absolutely ridiculous. It dumbfounds you but, when you look at the scoreboard at 48-6, I can’t really say too much.

“It’s just not bouncing our way at the moment. We’ve got some real key personnel out and they’re not likely to be back any time soon.

“The other team have got people coming back and they’re able to rest players, which we’re not able to do.

“We need to take our medicine. When things were going good we copped the raps but we weren’t good enough today.

“Leeds can do that to you. Once they get on your throat, they go for the jugular and they certainly did that today.”
