Attorney’s Office Runs Seminar On Corruption, Probity Law

Ondjiva — Managers of public institutions linked to various police departments, civil servants and students, are attending a talk on Corruption and Public Probity Law on Friday in Ondjiva, southern Cunene province, Angop learned.

Sponsored by the Attorney General’s Office in the region, the event is part of the “Legality Week” going from April 25-29 and is intended to raise awareness about concerned laws in force in the country and discipline the activity of civil servants.

Addressing the meeting, Felipe Luvungo, an Attorney’s Office inspector, spoke of the phenomenon of corruption, particularly that which is rife in developing countries, much stimulated by the lack of democracy and people’s participation in exposing corruption and egoistic and opportunistic attitudes on the part of officials in charge of public resources.

He said corruption affects economic development, creates market distortions and deficiencies.

Under the “Legality Week” in Cunene province, the Attorney’s Office has been running a programme that includes talks on Constitution, money bleaching and terrorism funding, domestic violence and visits to various police departments.
