Luq — Somalia’s Al shabaab on Thursday afternoon have launched an ambush attack on Somali forces in Gedo region in southern Somalia.
Al shabaab are said to have ambushed government forces flanked by military vehicles at the village of Kured just outside of Luq district in Gedo region.
At least 5 persons, all the combatants, were killed and dozens more injured during the confrontation there.
Diyad Abdi Kalil, one of Somali government officials in the region, told Shabelle that Somali forces came under attack. He noted the repulsed their apposing fighters.
However, the official has declined to say if there are casualties on their side.
Al shabaab has not released any comments about the fighting and its consequences.
