Ambassador Smith Presents Letters Of Credence

Ambassador Victor Emmanuel Smith, Ghana’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic, with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Hungary and Republic of Slovakia, has presented his Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Hungary at the Sandor Palace in Budapest.

The Hungarian President, Pal Schmitt commended Ghana for its high democratic credentials and its role in international peacekeeping operations, with a hint hat the next Embassy to be opened in the West African sub-region, following the recent closure of their Mission in Abuja, would most likely be in Accra.

Ghana’s encouraging democratic credentials, according to the President, made it a dependable partner for co-operation and advice in Africa.

The President encouraged Ambassador Smith to take full advantage of the opportunities for strengthening relations between Hungary and Ghana and urged him to play a very active and dynamic role in all official functions.

Ambassador Smith, for his part, conveyed fraternal greetings of President Mills to the Hungarian President and informed him about the government’s desire to further strengthen and consolidate relations between Ghana and Hungary.

Ambassador Smith stated his commitment to work toward the renewal and further strengthening of economic, political and cultural relations and also proposed collaboration in the area of technology transfer in agriculture, energy and river transportation.

Further informal discussions centred around events in Cote d’Ivoire and Libya.

Ambassador Smith was later invited to lay a wreath at the Heroes Square in the centre of Budapest.
