Ryan: Rewarded for fine form for Accrington

Accrington Stanley star Jimmy Ryan admits he was honoured to be named in the PFA League Two team of the Year.

The former Liverpool youngster was rewarded for his fine performances for League Two hopefuls Accrington this season with a place in the PFA XI after being nominated by his fellow players.

Ryan has an ever-present for Accrington in League Two this season and his showings are believed to have attracted the interest of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

The 22-year-old admits he was shocked to be named in the PFA side with Ryan becoming the first Accrington player to achieve the feat.

“I was made up to be named in the PFA team, it is a huge honour for me,” Ryan told skysports.com.

“I thought it was a wind-up at first, but it is nice to be voted into the team by your fellow players.

“It is an honour for the club as well and I am just focusing on doing my best for the team every time I play.”

Ryan has been instrumental in Accrington’s play-off bid and he admits winning promotion would be an amazing achievement for the club.

“It has been a hard season and we want to stay in the play-off places,” added Ryan.

“We want to finish as high up the table as possible and get in the play-offs.

“It will be a tough game against Barnet this weekend as they are in good form and they are fighting for their lives.”

“If we can get into the play-offs and then win them to go to League One that would be massive for the club.

“It would be brilliant for everyone connected with the club to be playing in League One next season and we will be doing everything to try and realise that dream.”
