Peacock’s injury cost him a place on England’s autumn tour down under

Leeds forward Jamie Peacock is ready for his comeback after eight months out following the knee operation that prematurely ended his 2010 campaign.

The former Great Britain captain has been named in the Rhinos’ squad for Friday’s derby trip to Castleford.

Peacock coincidentally suffered the knee injury on Leeds’ last trip to Cas in August, when the Rhinos won 38-6.

Peacock’s comeback follows Danny McGuire’s return from injury on Monday in Leeds’ 34-16 win over Crusaders.

McGuire also missed the first two months of the season after suffering a similar knee injury in Leeds’ play-off win at Wigan last September.

Leeds winger Lee Smith is also in the squad and in contention to make a return.

Smith has missed the Rhinos’ last three games with a hamstring injury, while Ben Cross is also added to the team who beat Crusaders.

Castleford are without prop Craig Huby, who has been ruled out for at least four months after fracturing his knee.

Leeds have won on both their last two trips to Wheldon Road.

In fact, their only defeat against Cas in six meetings came in the Rhinos’ first home game last season – 24-10 in February.

Peacock said he was raring to get back after such a long absence, but warned that he would need time to get back to full speed.

“It’s like pre-season for me and it’s not realistic to expect me to get back to how I was playing straight away,” he said.

“It’s been the longest break I’ve ever had and it’s going to take some time to find my feet.

“But it’s going to be a 20 to 25-game season for me which is fantastic. I’m still going to be fresh at the end of the year when the important games come round.”
