Hull Kingston Rovers coach Justin Morgan says he would like to keep Shaun Briscoe at the club.
The 28-year-old full-back, who has been sidelined since March with a knee injury, is out of contract at the end of the season.
Morgan told BBC Humberside: “Of course I’d like to see him stay. But I think it’s difficult to negotiate with players when they are not playing.
“Shaun’s focus at the minute is just getting on the pitch.”
Briscoe could make his comeback in the Challenge Cup trip to York on 8 May, just over five weeks after sustaining the injury in in the 34-16 defeat by St Helens.
“Shaun wants to get out there and play again, and we want him to play, so when that happens there’s plenty of time to sit down and talk about next year and beyond,” Morgan added.
Meanwhile, Morgan has also confirmed that he is unaware if talks have taken place between Willie Mason, Mason’s agent and chairman Neil Hudgell regarding links over a possible switch to French rugby union side Toulon.
“That’s for Willie’s agent and the chairman to discuss. I talk to Willie about rugby issues. I’m comfortable with where he’s at, there’s no drama there,” Morgan added.
“Any information that comes out of that he’ll let me know, but I just get on with my job and it’s looking after the team.”
