St Helens’ half-back worries have increased with the loss of stand-off Jonny Lomax for around five weeks.
The in-form 20-year-old sustained ankle ligament damage in Monday’s 22-20 win over Castleford in which hooker Scott Moore also picked up an ankle injury.
Stand-off Gary Wheeler will undergo shoulder surgery on Friday and first-choice half-backs Leon Pryce and Kyle Eastmond are still on the sidelines.
Fellow number six Lee Gaskell is recuperating from a fractured ankle.
In all Saints are likely to be without six half-backs for Monday’s Super League contest at Hull.
Full-back Paul Wellens and forwards Paul Clough and Chris Flannery are other injury absentees but Saints could have prop Josh Perry back after missing the last three matches with a groin strain.
