We Will Prove Our Critics Wrong – Mills

President John Evans Atta Mills has vowed to prove his critics wrong at the end of his tenure as he remains focused on his better Ghana agenda.

The President made the pronouncement in the Northern Region where he is on a four day tour.

Speaking at the Palace of the Gukpei Naa, President Mills said, “We are here among other things to inspect the projects that we have initiated. And as we said, we want to build a better Ghana and therefore I would want the whole world and Ghana in particular to see what we have done and what remains to be done. Please bear with us, but I want to assure you that at the end of the day, we shall overcome all our challenges and prove our critics wrong”.

President Mills said he remains committed to improve the lots of Ghanaians particularly those in deprived areas in the three northern regions and elsewhere.

The law Professor has come under intense pressure in recent times from within his own party the NDC, mainly from his party Founder and former President Jerry Rawlings, for what they say is his weak leadership.

Mr. Rawlings has expressed disappointment in the Mills-Mahama presidency, saying they had failed to deliver on the promises made to Ghanaians and also failed to take the moral high ground to justify their continued rule.

At a recent meeting with party chiefs in the Ashanti region, Mr Rawlings reportedly claimed the President was no longer worthy of his support. He was however quick to issue a disclaimer that his decision not to campaign for a future Mills-Mahama ticket has anything to do with his wife’s intention to challenge President Mills’ second term bid.

Some NDC members, such as Lower Manya MP Michael Teye Nyaunu have gone even further, saying the President and his Vice, as well as other senior members of his cabinet are not true dyed-in-the-wool NDC members and are thus pursuing policies that have the potential of making the party unpopular.

However, President Mills remains confident and insists he will not be distracted.

At a recent interaction with chiefs and people of the Brong Ahafo Region, the former law lecturer declared, “No amount of diversionary tactics will move us from our desired goal and objective. When we started there were problems, there were challenges, there were obstacles, but we were able to overcome them. Now everywhere you go, you can see improvements…You look at what we have been able to do in two years three months, and compare with what others were able to do. I leave the judgment to you.”
