Long: Six week injury blow for Hull
Scrum-half Sean Long will be missing from the Hull FC side for six weeks after he was forced to undergo surgery on a broken thumb.
Long played on despite injuring his thumb during the Good Friday derby match against Hull KR, but the injury has proven to be worse than first thought.
The former Great Britain international was thought to have suffered a dislocation during the game, but X-rays later revealed the problem was a fracture.
Hull coach Richard Agar said the news was a big blow for his team but was confident in the rest of the squad to cover for Long’s absence until June.
“He has a Bennett’s fracture in his thumb and had an operation today so we are looking at about six weeks and we’ll see how he goes,” Agar said.
“It’s a blow for Sean and for the team, as the derby game showed what a quality player he is and how vital he is to our team.
“But we have good cover in Sam Obst. He has delivered consistently well for us, whether that be at hooker or in the halves and he produced another solid performance for us against Warrington on Monday.”
Hull will look to make it three successive wins for the first time for 12 months when St Helens visit the KC Stadium on Monday afternoon.
