Addressing the people of the Northern Region at the Dakpema’s palace, President Mills assured the chiefs and people that his government would not hesitate to seek foreign assistance to help find the killers of the late Dagbon Overlord if the need arises.
“It is wrong for people to think that this is a Dagbon matter, it is not a Dagbon matter, it is a Ghanaian matter. So I want to assure you that we have things in place and I want to assure you that even if we have to seek outside help we will do it. “Let nobody think that we are insensitive to the plight of our brothers and sisters in Dagbon. After all I am President for all and Dagbon matter is Atta Mills matter and a government matter”.
According to the President, the court ruling will not discourage his government from pursuing and prosecuting the murderers of the late Dagbon King.
President Mills also took a swipe at the erstwhile NPP government, saying the Kufuor administration buried the Ya-Na case and it was only resurrected under the current NDC administration. “When we came to power it looked as if the Ya-Na case had been buried.
The government that we took over from had washed their hands off. We were the ones who brought them up because justice is the foundation of human development”, he said to cheers. President Mills is in the Northern Region to inspect ongoing projects and cut the sod for new projects to begin.
His visit to the region was delayed after some youth reacted violently to a court ruling that acquitted and discharged 15 suspects standing trial for the murder of the late Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II.
