Luanda — The CEO of the port in the south-west Namibe province, Joaquim Neto, said on Tuesday that the rehabilitation and modernisation of the referred infrastructure will enable the handling of 800,000 tonnes of cargo per year, against the current 500.000 tonnes.

Joaquim Neto said so to Angop during a workshop on “Leadership, Finance and Management Control.

In addition, the CEO said that his institution has already drafted a strategic plan for the rehabilitation of the port to be implemented in various stages.

In the ambit of the existing bilateral co-operation with Japan, some USD 20 million were invested in a first phase for the rehabilitation of Namibe Port, whose works ended last August.

Another Usd 20 million will be invested in the second phase in 2012.
