The opposition New Patriotic Party executives in the Gushegu constituency have accused the District Chief Executive, Hon. Fuseini Alhassan of stock piling arms and ammunitions for subsequent distribution to some selected NDC supporters.
They suspect the move is aimed at unleashing mayhem on NPP supporters in the area.
They also claim to have evidence to support the allegation that the DCE is supplying weapons to his party men to retaliate the murder of the late Nang-Lana Abubakari Ziblim who was murdered during a political clash between NPP and NDC supporters on September 1, 2008.
“We have intercepted credible intelligence information that our DCE Hon. Fuseini Alhassan is actively and surreptitiously supplying arms and ammunitions to some selected NDC supporters to prepare them to unleash violence on the law abiding supporters of NPP.”
They further insinuated that the DCE, Hon. Fuseini Alhassan uses his office as a meeting ground where the NDC leadership in Gushegu meet to discuss and implement their agenda to disintegrate NPP members in Gushegu ahead of the 2012 general elections.
According to the Gushegu NPP executives, the BNI and the police on August 5,2010 upon a tip off trailed and finally impounded a large consignment of ammunitions belonging to a known NDC activist and arms dealer called Mr. Mutala.
They pointed at him, Mr. Mustapha as the prime suspect who masterminded the NPP and the NDC clash which resulted into the death of Nang-Lana Abubakari Ziblim.
Ziblim Yamusah, Gushegu constituency NPP Communications Director cut the slur on the DCE and the Gushegu constituency NDC Chairman, Alhaji Mahama Jamoni at a news conference held at the NPP constituency office in Gushegu.
He expressed worry over security lapses in the district regarding the enforcement of the curfew in Gushegu and its environs.
He thus called on the Minister of the Interior Dr. Benjamin Kumbour to be strict on security operatives in the district to comply with the directive.
Ziblim Yamusah indicted the national security operatives of arresting only NPP members in-connection with the late Nang-Lana’s murder whereas intelligence reports recommended the arrest of some suspects belonging to both sides.
He said it was placed on record that the Gushegu constituency NDC Organiser, Masahudu Issahaku, aka Abiola was the one who allegedly led NDC tugs to violently assault the NPP supporters in Kpatinga, an attack which triggered the
escalated clash that led to the death of the late Nang-Lana Abubakari Ziblim.
“It was the same “Abiola” who, upon arrival from Kpatinga led his area NDC thugs to attack the residence of Yishe-lana, known in private life as Abukari Shikuru: today, the same Abiola has now transmuted himself into an apparatchik of the national security operative, implicating his perceived political opponents and effectuating their eventual arrests” he fumed.
“In spite of these provocations, hostilities and political harassments, we have continued to urge restraint on our rank and file in the hope that justice will eventually be made to reign: however our hopes for justice and fairness have been irremediably prejudiced by no less a person than the NDC constituency chairman, Alhaji Mahama Jamoni, who has been purportedly calling the shots behind the scenes.”
Ziblim Yamusah nonetheless expressed their commitment to the peace process in Gushegu and urged the DCE, Hon. Fuseini Alhassan to conduct himself as the government representative in order not to endanger the peace building process.
He welcomed government’s decision to conduct fresh investigations into the murder of the late Nang-Lana Abubakari Ziblim but made a passionate appeal to President John Evans Atta Mills to impress upon the national security operatives to go beyond what he described as “One-sided arrest” and apprehend other NDC suspects whose names were recorded.
But in a sharp rebuttal, the DCE, Hon. Fuseini Alhassan rubbished the allegations levelled against him and said the news conference formed part of the Gushegu NPP executives grand plan to disrepute his hard won reputation.
He described himself as a “Peace maker” whose majority priority as Chairman of the District Security Committee is to ensure that peace and unity prevailed for meaningful development to take place in Gushegu.
Hon. Fuseini Alhassan reiterated his commitment to develop the district in line with the Better Ghana Agenda for which reason residents should co-exist peacefully.
He advised the residents to cooperate with the district peace committee set up by his administration to sustain the fragile peace they have enjoyed lately.
Gushegu is one of the densely populated districts in the Northern Region known for its economic potentials but has been one of the major hotspots in the Dagbon State where chieftaincy, Political and religious upheavals have affected the residents welfare.
