Zambia: Red Arrows Humiliate Lime Hotspurs

RED Arrows yesterday ran riot handing promotion side Lime Hotspurs a 6-1 thrashing in an MTN Premier Division week four match to spear to the top of the table as former international striker Adubelo Phiri helped himself to a hat-trick while Jeff Kabelwa climbed off the substitutes’ bench to notch a brace.

There were also big wins for Zanaco and Nchanga Rangers who beat Nkwazi 5-0 and Kalewa 4-0 respectively.

Phiri opened his and Arrows’ account from the penalty spot in the 23rd after he was bundled down in the box and referee Joseph Jere did not hesitate to point to the sport for the formerly Angola based striker to dust himself up and side-foot the resultant spot-kick.

Mwape Mwelwa netted the second on the stroke of half time when he dispossessed Lime skipper Clive Hachilensa before scoring easily for the Airmen to go into the half time break leading 2-0.

On resumption, Lime fought gamely and were rewarded in the 55th when Lameck Kafwaya scored a goal that breathed some lifeline into the visitors attack although almost immediately Phiri restored Arrows’ two goal cushion after good work from skipper Stanley ‘Giggs’ Banda.

With the game already comfortable for the home side, coach George Lwandamina introduced exciting winger Bruce Musakanya who was a thorn in the Lime defence as he created Arrows’ fourth goal on 69 minutes through Kabelwa.

Kabelwa again benefited from the industry of Musakanya in the 77th to net his second of the day before Phiri completed his treble three minutes from time to send Arrows to the top of the table on 11 points.

Zanaco 5 Nkwazi 0

Former champions Zanaco ran riot scoring five goals past once-upon-a-time league

leaders Nkwazi in a lively week five match that saw the “Policemen” reduced to mere spectators, reports Muwali Musampula at Sunset Stadium.

The Bankers, who were in full control of the game from the first whistle, could have won by cricket score-line but goals from Charles Siwingwa in the 29th, Aubrey Funga brace in 37th and 72nd minutes, Henry Banda 44th and Ignatius Lwipa goal in 75th were enough to take Zanaco up to seven points.

For their first, Siwingwa converted a penalty awarded after Moses Phiri was brought down by Derrick Mwansa inside the box. Funga scored first through a header after out-jumping clumsy Nkwazi defenders.

A minute later Banda, shot into the far corner of the net after an interchange of passes involving Funga and Phiri from the left flank of the field to the right to displace Nkwazi goalkeeper and former international Sydney Tembo to leave the Bankers upfront at the end of the first half whistle.

After the break, Zanaco continued with their dominance with Funga scoring his brace in the 72nd before Lwipa scored the fifth three minutes later.

Rangers 4 Kalewa 0

At Nchanga Stadium in Chingola, Ignatius Mazeko reports that hosts Nchanga Rangers added more misery to Kalewa’s maiden elite league campaign after pummelling the promotion side in a match that had seen the hosts move up to eights points.

Matthews Macha opened the floodgates in the fifth minute when he nodded the ball past Kalewa ‘keeper Enock Kabaso after being teed up by his younger brother Lewis, who connected an inviting cross lifted by Floyd Phiri from the right flank.

Phiri doubled the lead 10 minutes later when his cross from the right went past a hapless Kabaso and skipper Moses Mulambi made it three with a header in first half stoppage time before Matthews completed his brace in the 67th with a curling strike.

Forest 1 Buffaloes 2

Green Buffaloes yesterday came from behind to beat Forest Rangers in their MTN Super League Week Five match, completing a six-point haul during their Easter Holiday tour of Ndola, reports Felix Malunga from

Dola Hill.

Forest took a deserved lead on 11 points when Zebron Ndhlovu squeezed the ball between the legs of net minder Davy Kaumbwa after capitalising on a defensive lapse by Buffaloes skipper, Dennis Banda.

Dears Kakunta restored parity with a thunderbolt outside the box on 49 minutes after a good build-up by Buffaloes. The game was settled in the 83rd when Chipili Mungule knocked-in a header at the near-post from a Kennedy Chola cross.

Nakambala 1 Blades 1

In Mazabuka, Signs Chibambo salvaged a vital point for Nakambala Leopards in the 59th cancelling a 38th minute goal scored by Konkola Blades’ Ephraim Banda, reports Jim Fikoloma at Nakambala Stadium.

Kabwe Warriors picked up their first win of the season to move up five points and bottom of the table following a deservedly win over struggling Green Eagles.
