Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard ready to fight for number one spot at Old Trafford

Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has issued a warning to any ‘keeper signed by the club in the summer; he is more than ready to battle for the number one jersey.

The Old Trafford club are fully expected to sign another new goalkeeper in summer as current number one Edwin Van der Sar is expected to retire, leaving Lindegaard, Ben Amos and Tomasz Kuszczak at the club, whilst the latter is also expected to leave the club due to his contract expiring.

Since joining United from Danish side Aalesunds in January, Lindegaard has made just two appearances for the club, both coming in the FA Cup.

The Denmark international who was dubbed not good enough for United by club legend Peter Schmeichel, has been missing from the squad for the last five weeks due to a knee injury therefore missing out on a number of opportunities to increase his playing time.

Despite United being constantly linked with a stream of goalkeepers includinig David De Gea, Manuele Neuer and Rene Adler, Lindegaard is ready to battle.

Speaking to Sunmorposten, Lindegaard said: “The question is more complex than just a yes or no answer

“There are many factors to consider but it is, of course, a goal.

“I don’t think about that other keepers being linked with United. That’s not on my table and I can’t say one thing or another about it.

“The only thing I can do is show myself and prove to everyone that I should be the first-choice keeper.”
