‘The whole issue is a newspaper theme’ – Jerome Boateng’s agent denies Bayern Munich have enquired about the Manchester City defender

Jerome Boateng‘s agent has confirmed that he has had no contact with Bayern Munich over a potential move for the Manchester City defender.

The German international has struggled to rack up a prolonged sequence of matches since his move from Hamburger SV, as injuries have plagued the opening year of his Eastlands tenure.

And it is no secret that Bayern are looking for qualified defensive options, and Boateng would appear to fit the bill. The former Hamburg man is capable of playing anywhere in the back line, but has struggled for playing time since moving to City last summer.

Bayern have also been linked with Benfica left-back Fabio Coentrao, Ajax right-back Gregory van der Wiel, and central defenders Benedikt Howedes and Per Mertesacker of Schalke and Werder Bremen respectively.

“The whole issue is a newspaper theme,” Jorg Neubauer told Kicker. “I don’t have to think about a transfer as long as no one approaches me.”

Neubauer also remained coy when asked whether his client would be interested in a move to Munich should Bayern come knocking.

“I cannot confirm that,” he said.
