Obadan wants NYSC to ban states where corps members were killed

FORMER Deputy Governor of Edo State, Rev.Peter Obadan, Monday, urged the authorities of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to ban the states where corps members were killed for at least five years, so that state authorities will make their welfare a priority in future.

Obadan, who blamed the former military  Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari for the violence, regretted that the innocent corps members, who are future hopes of their families would be killed due to what he described as “unnecessary political violence.”

He said “those states must be taught a lesson for the sake of our corps members.

“The sad thing is that we had a peaceful poll adjudged the fairest and most acceptable election in the eyes of the international community, which all Nigerians witnessed. But preceding the election,  Buhari had made provocative statements and these were the statements that ignited the crisis that followed the election. He is the one that should be held liable to the wanton destruction of lives and property in the North.

“The first thing that should happen before prosecuting anybody is for a statement to emanate from NYSC office, that until the next couple of years, a minimum of five years, no Youth Corps member would be sent to those states, where the governors could not protect these innocent ones. I don’t think they deserve to have any corps member. All those involved, who were  arrested must be prosecuted.

“There should be no exception. The third issue is that the states should be responsible for the compensation of all the structures that were destroyed and to the families of the killed or injured,” he added.
