Dhusamareb — Al shabaab fighters on Saturday launched a premeditated attack on Dhusamareb town in Galgudud region central Somalia where Ahlu Sunna Waljama ASWJ had been controlling.
Reports emanating from the town of Dhusamreb suggested that after heavy gun battle with fighters loyal to Ahlu Sunna Waljama, the town has fallen in the hands of Al shabaab.
Locals told Shabelle that the fighting initially erupted in the fringes of Dhusamareb and then spread over the town.
Heavy crackling machine gun fire and artillery weapons could be heard inside and the outskirts of Dhusmareb before Al shabaab takeover.
It is still unclear the causalities the fighting has caused as Ahlu Sunna fighters deserted the town completely.
The situation is still tense and sporadic gunfire could be heard inside Dhusamareb.
No immediate comments about the fighting were obtained from the warring sides.
