AKWA IBOM State Governor, Chief Godswill Akpabio, weekend, lamented the level of insecurity in the state. He noted that his greatest worry since becoming governor in 2007 was the spate of political violence, killings, kidnappings and other vices that were traceable to the people of the state.
Akpabio, in a chat with newsmen in Uyo, regretted that most of the suspected kidnappers arrested by the police for prosecution, turned out to be people from the state, a situation, he said, was shocking.
He said, “my greatest challenge is that of security. That kidnappings are traceable to Akwa Ibom is regrettable and most of kidnappers arrested by the police for prosecution turn out to be Akwa Ibom people is just unfortunate.”
Identifying blackmail as another challenge, the Governor said petition writing was one of the weapons of the blackmailers. He noted that one of the petition writers had written close to 100 petitions using different pseudo names.
Governor Akpabio said if he had adequate funds, he would have developed more infrastructure in the state.
He added, however, that he planned to provide more than 10,000 units of houses for civil servants in the next two years.
