MUNUNGA Quarry is scheduled to supply 20,000 tonnes of aggregate quarry to China Henan International, which has been awarded a contract to rehabilitate Mansa Road in Luapula Province.
According to the latest edition of Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) e-Newsletter, the quarry had already been drilled and blasted and at least 5, 000 tonnes were on the ground, ready for collection.
TAZARA would earn at least K1.2 billion in income.
The rail company has two quarries at Mununga, about 100 kilometres from Mpika, and another replica of the quarry at Kongolo, near Igurisi station, about 79 kilometres from Mbeya station in Tanzania.
Each of the quarries produces ballast for railway use as well as other by-products and aggregates, chippings, quarry dust and crusher dust.
Mununga quarry equipment has design capacity to produce more than 80,000 tonnes of ballast per year, while Kongolo also produced similar quantities per year.
