In the wake of news story that Presidential aspirant Sen. Prince Y. Johnson of the National Union for Democratic Progress (NUPD) sold all his properties, leaving him with nothing, he has affirmed that he sold all his properties registered as assets in 2005, but he also revealed that he has acquired more assets since then.
Mr. Johnson made the revelation in reaction to a story in this paper Friday quoting GAC sources as saying that Mr. Johnson last week informed GAC auditors that he has sold all his properties registered as assets in 2005.
“I have acquired more assets than I had in 2005,” Sen. Johnson told this paper Friday after it reported that he told auditors, preparing to audit key politicians, that he had sold everything he had.
He did admit that in 2005, he sold his home in Ganta, as well as a cocoa farm, because he needed money, but has since acquired additional assets.
When he ran for the Senate in 2005, Mr. Johnson declared that he had, as gross, LD100, 000 from his cocoa farm from January to December 2004. He also listed a US$50,000 real estate holding which was located in Ganta, Nimba County. He also said he did not owe anyone a cent, and nobody owed him a penny.
The auditors, according to GAC’s mandate, would want to verify to whom Mr. Johnson sold his assets and if all required government taxes were paid in full.
