Wolves’ striker Kevin Doyle hopes to make a shock return from injury before the end of the season

Wolves striker Kevin Doyle has revealed he hopes to make a premature return from injury in order to make an appearance for his team before the end of the current Premier League season.

The Republic of Ireland international was expected to sit out the remainder of the season after suffering damage to knee ligaments whilst on international duty back in March.

However, the twenty-seven-year-old, who was Wolves’s leading goal scorer before his injury, has told the clubs official website he hopes to be back for his sides last two fixtures against Sunderland and Blackburn before the end of the season.

Doyle said: “That’s the aim at the moment,” he told the club’s official website.

“I had a good week with the physios last week doing some running and we’re looking at me being available for the last two games.
 
“Hopefully that will be the case and I can have some impact on the rest of the season.”

Wolves’ fans will be relieved at Doyle’s premature return, as their team looks ahead to the end of the season with only one target in mind: Premier League survival. And there is no doubts the encounters against Sunderland and Blackburn will have a massive affect on whether Wolves will be playing Premiership or Championship football at Molineux next season.

Doyle optimistically added: “There’s no game we don’t think we can win away or home.”
 
“That’s why we’re still so positive.
 
“Everyone believes we’re going to get out of it and I don’t think that’s changed.
 
“It’s in our own hands. If we get results we’ll stay up so that’s the good thing.
 
“We’ve been in and around this situation for the last two seasons, so we’re well used to it.
 
“We have decent games against teams who are in a similar position to us and it’s up to us – if we can get results in some of those games we’ll stay up, we don’t have to rely on anyone else.”
