Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has admitted he is delighted with the club’s recent form and puts his goal scoring performances down to the faith shown in him by Kenny Dalglish.

The Dutch international has been in excellent form since the turn of the year, scoring eight goals since Dalglish took over and is now just two goals away from his best goals return in a Liverpool shirt.

Kuyt has credited Dalglish as the main reason behind his goal scoring form.

He told Sky Sports: “I am normally not the kind of player who has a personal target.

“As a forward player you want to score goals and I am very satisfied with the way things are going.

“That is also down to the manager, who gives me a lot of confidence – it doesn’t matter whether I play on the right or up front I am just enjoying my time and hopefully I can score a few more.”

Despite his happiness at being the focus of some attention due to his goal scoring recently, the forward believes the club has to target winning the rest of their games in order to qualify for Europe next season.

He added: “I would much more appreciate it if we went for a European spot, but it is nice to be involved in important moments.

The most important thing for us is to look to ourselves and if we win our own games we will get closer and closer to fifth-placed Tottenham.

“Spurs have to come to Anfield and that will be interesting but it will only be interesting if we win our own games.

Hopefully we can keep going and the focus at the moment is on Newcastle next Sunday.”
