THE Directorate of Civil Aviation (DCA) has taken a no-nonsense attitude toward aviation safety violators this month.
Yesterday, a source confirmed that the DCA suspended the licence of Captain David Frederick Kint on April 14, after he bungled an Air Namibia landing last week with more than 180 passengers on board. The source said the pilot’s licence was suspended “due to safety reasons”.
Kint’s suspension could be lifted if he agrees to undergo a number of activities prescribed to him by the DCA, in order to ensure his capabilities.
In addition, the civil aviation watchdog suspended all parachuting in Namibia on April 7 until a “proper and full audit has been done of the parachute companies”.
A source said yesterday that following the skydiving accident in which Sivute Amunyela died in March, the DCA investigation revealed skydiving operations in Namibia “are not up to standard”.
The source said that skydiving activities will be re-instated once new manuals of procedures have been submitted to the DCA and a complete audit has been done of the companies offering the activity in Namibia.
The major reasons given for the suspension of skydiving in Namibia is “due to safety reasons and we found they are self-regulating”.
