Luanda — The joint Angola/Namibia initiative against malaria will be launched Monday at a ceremony with representatives of both countries, Angop learned.
Accoding to Nilton Saraiva, assistant director of the National Programme against Malaria, Angola is assisting the neighbouring Namíbia with the disease through combined actions that include spray of mosquito killers, distribution of insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets,
harmonisation of the treatment protocol, that is the use of Coartem in the two countries.
The initiative includes the treatment of patients in both countries, regardless of their nationalities. The ceremony of launch of the programme will coincide with the World Malara Day, April 25.
Angola expects to eradicate malaria until 2030 when the prevalence of the disease comes to zero for at least three consecutive years.
Better eradication prospect say malaria might be fully eliminated until 2025 in the low prevalence southern provinces of Huila, Cunene and Kuando Kubango.
About 3.5 cases of malária were recorded in Angola in 2010.
