UGANDA Revenue Authority Football Club is on course for a second Bell Uganda Cup title. URA, who defeated favourites Bunamwaya at the quarter-finals on Friday, will at the penultimate stage take on winner from the Victors versus Baza or Proline match.
Baza and Proline have a case before FUFA’s appeals committee that will be determined this week. Baza accuses Proline of using ineligible players.
Army side Simba will in the semi-finals face the winner from the Arsenal versus Express match that was by press time yesterday still on.
The last four battle in Uganda’s second biggest soccer competition is scheduled for May 13 and 14.
It was sweet revenge for URA who are also in contention for the Uganda Super League title.
URA were eliminated in almost similar fashion by the same opposition at the same stage last year.
This time round, URA underlined their intentions early with Robert Ssentongo putting the Lugazi side up in the eighth minute at Kitende.
However, Tony Odur equalised for the hosts in the second half forcing the match into extra time.
The added time failed to produce a winner resulting in the spot kicks where URA skipper Manko Kaweesa, Hamis Kizza, goalkeeper Allan Owiny and Ssentongo scored. Moses Feni was however not sharp enough to find the mark.
The hosts’ bad fortune was evident right from the first penalty that was fired out by Ayub Kisalita.
Odur’s marksmanship in normal play however couldn’t be repeated in the shoot-out where his effort was saved by Hamza Muwonge.
The match at times got bloody resulting in red cards for URA’s Dan Wagaluka and Andy Ssali of Bunamwaya.
At the end of the contest both sides were visibly worn out.
“There is too much action. The work load is finally taking its toll but thank God we won,” noted URA coach Alex Isabirye.
Moses Okello and Robert Omunuk scored a goal each to prop Simba to the next stage in Friday’s other quarter-final. Geoffrey Luutu scored Misindye’s goal.
