Police raid Jabi park, arrest suspects

Policemen from Utako Division and the FCT Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in the early hours of Saturday raided Jabi park, after receiving information of arms deposit in the place.

A witness, Yinusa Suleman, said around 3 am, well-armed police detectives stormed the park and arrested suspicious persons.

“They searched buses as well as various parts of the park and later left with some persons,” the witness stated.

He said some decent union officials were also taken away, adding that they have gone to Utako Police Division to demand for their release.

Responding, Utako Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent Usman K. Umar, said the police acted on security reports that dangerous weapons were inside the park, ahead of the Easter celebration.

He said SARS policemen and those from his division mobilised and raided the area, finding daggers, knives and other dangerous weapons, adding that the police arrested those found with the weapons.

According to him, the raid was necessary to avoid tension in the environs as well as to ensure that residents enjoy their Easter holiday without harassment.
