The Englishman carded a one-under 70 to remain as the man to catch heading into the final round, however defending champion Jim Furyk is lurking just one shot adrift.

Donald showed plenty of nerves but fought back well after a double bogey and bogey on the front nine to catch Furyk with a birdie at 16.

Furyk held the lead for much of his back nine at Harbour Town Golf Links, but made bogey on the closing lighthouse hole for a 69 to drop back into second.

Brendan de Jonge (66) and Scott Verplank (67) are two shots behind and well in the hunt for the title at nine-under.
