Ghana midfielder Michael Essien could be facing spells on the sidelines after pulling up in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Essien kicked a ball out and signalled his substitution from a suspected knee injury-from afar looks to be similar spot he suffered previous injuries.
A complicated knee injury kept him out of action for the greater part of last season and missed the 2010 Fifa World Cup finals in South Africa.
The 27-year-old was replaced by Israel international Yossi Benayoun.
Chelsea will later reveal the extent of his injury.
