The Minister for Water Resources Works and Housing Alban Bagbin says he would welcome any form of investigations into the agreements surrounding the STX Housing project.

His comments come on the back of reports making rounds that the former first lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has promised to probe the STX deal should she become President some day.

Some pro-opposition personalities have chastised the NDC government for going ahead with the d eal which they have described as “fraudulent”.

Speaking on Citi FMon Friday April 22, Hon Alban Bagbin noted that the NDC government wants the best for the country and has no qualms with investigations being conducted into the STX housing deal.

“I heard of it and I also heard Kofi Adams explain but I have no problem whether two years after, twenty years after, hundred years after, any president of this country, suspecting any untoward deals in any of the things that we have done decides to investigate them.

“I have no problem at all, I will welcome it and wouldd support those probes because we want the best for this country and we don’t want the peoples interest to be short-changed by any person or group of people so that is welcome new, we don’t run away from being investigated from today, tomorrow or whenever”.

Commenting on the recent power struggle within the NDC, the former Majority leader in Parliament fell short of categorically approving or disapproving of Nana Konadu’s intention of running for the flagbearer slot of the party.

There has been a heated debate in the party as to whether or not the former first lady should contest President Mills for the leadership of the party ahead of the 2012 polls.

This has led to growing tension within the rank and file of the party for which Mr. Bagbin advised that “the only thing that I would want to plead is that there must be civility in whatever we’re doing and that the party is supreme, that is what we must see and the party is not for any individual or group of people, it is for this generation and generations yet unborn, we those who believe that our saviour is social democracy”.

Asked whether he would be surprised if Nana Konadu gets the nod to lead the NDC at the primaries ahead of President Mills, Mr. Bagbin said “why, if the people decide that she is the one, why should that surprise me?

On the issue of recent accusation that he (Alban Bagbin) belongs to the Rawlings camp and secretly supports Mrs. Rawlings’ decision to contest President Mills, he denied the reports and described them as “false” adding that “I know what is good and I try as much as possible to be impartial so neither Professor Mills or Jerry John Rawlings can confidently say that this man belongs here or there so people are always thinking that one must belong, what about me also having my own camp.”
