Corinthians will pay the injured Adriano €750,000 in wages while his ruptured achilles heel recovers, according to reports from Goal.com Brazil.

The burly striker joined the club last month on a one-year contract after seeing his €5m-a-year deal with Roma terminated after only eight months in the Italian capital.

Adriano was expected to make his debut for the Brazilian club next month after recovering from a shoulder injury but has been dealt a blow with the news that he will be out injured for five months after tearing his tendon in training.

However, the Sao Paulo-based side have confirmed that there are no problems with the club continuing to pay the agreed €150,000 per month deal.

“It was a training ground accident. He was not injured at the beach or anywhere else. There is no possibility of change in the contract. This is not something we have eben considered so we will comply with what was agreed upon by both parties,” said the club’s deputy director of football Duilio Monteiro Alves, according to Goal.com Brazil.

The former Inter striker had surgery on his left ankle on Wednesday evening before leaving the hospital on crutches the following morning.

Corinthians had placed the 29-year-old on a strict training regime to get himself back into prime condition and reports suggests that Adriano had lost six pounds in 10 days.

The Brazilian international is expected to resume light training in three months’ time with the club’s official website stating their number 10 should make his debut in five months’ time.
