Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes the Premier League is beyond local rivals Arsenal and has tipped Manchester United to lift a record-breaking 19th top-flight trophy.

However, the Spurs boss reckons the race for the title will go down to the very last day of the season, with Chelsea also in contention.

“I honestly can’t see Arsenal managing it now, but although Manchester United will probably just edge it, I can see it going right down to the final day,” he wrote in his column for The Sun.

“I must say that I fancy United to hang on. And if they do, I would rate that as the greatest achievement of Alex Ferguson’s time at Old Trafford.

“In fairness, you couldn’t put this United side down as the greatest he’s ever built, but what they do have the same as his previous ones is that winning mentality.”

The former Portsmouth boss also hit out at the speculation surrounding Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti’s position, saying it is “a disgrace”.

Redknapp said: “When Carlo Ancelotti led Chelsea to the Double last season, it should have kept him safe for at least the next three years.

“Instead he finds his position under increasing speculation by the day – and I have to say that’s a disgrace. He’s won the Champions League, Premier League, Serie A, Italian Cups, the FA Cup – you name it, Carlo’s done it.

“And don’t forget that for all Chelsea’s little blip in mid-season, he could still end up making it two titles on the bounce this time as well. If it hadn’t been for a dodgy two or three-week spell – when Chelsea also had a lot of injuries, don’t forget – they’d be favourites to win the Premier League now.

“Chelsea have got to win their five remaining games to have a shout, but that’s well within their capabilities the way Carlo’s got them playing again at the moment.”

The 64-year-old also believes his nephew, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard, has the necessary attributes to become a top-flight manager once his playing career is over.

“Talking of managers, there are always some players you just know are cut out for it, and others who aren’t,” he said.

“And I think Chelsea have one on the books now who would be great for the job if he does decide to go down that route when he hangs up his boots – Frank Lampard.

“Frank has this determination to be successful at whatever he does, and that’s a tremendous asset.

“He’s a class act both on the field and off it – just as his current manager at Stamford Bridge is.”
