Police has used teargas to disperse a crowd of DP supporters led by former musician turned politician Eddie Yawe who were marching on Kampala Road protesting the high food prices and the detention of party leader Norbert Mao.
Emmanuel Mulondo, reporting for the Daily Monitor in the City Centre says a pepper water spray van was called in after the group of opposition supporters carrying placards complaining of the food prices refused to stop when police intercepted them.
“They have not fired the normal teargas canisters, instead the van sprays the pepper water spray on the road and then the impact is felt second letter.”
Areas most affected are Kampala Road especially the area near the Constitution Square and Dustur Street.
Anti-riot police is patrolling the sections of the road.
Mr Mao, a former Presidential candidate in the February polls was this morning transferred from Luzira where he was being held to Nakasongola as supporters and other opposition suppers threatened to walk to the prison.
He was last Thursday remanded until May 2nd for participating in the walk to work campaigns against high food and fuel prices.
