Benguela — The state Secretary for Human Rights, António Bento Bembe, expressed his concern about the overcrowding of Benguela’s Central Prison, a fact that createsconstraints to accommodation of inmates, ANGOP has learnt.
The official said so to the press, while speaking at the end of a working visit to Benguela Province.
Benguela Prison, constructed to host 1,500 detainees, is currently home to over 1,800 people, a situation that should deserve a special attention, added Bento Bembe.
Despite the overcrowding situation, the prison is in need of rehabilitation works, in order to offer worthy conditions to the inmates.
Bento Bembe also noticed the delay in dealing with some cases, as well as appealed for better conditions in the health centre of the prison.
