Nominations will be opened from May 3-10, according to Johnson Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the NDC who made the disclosure at a press conference in Accra.
Prospective candidates can pick up their forms for GH¢20,000, however, female aspirants will enjoy a 50% rebate, paying GH¢10,000.
Speaking to the issue as a panelist on PeaceFM’s flagship programme, ‘Kokrokoo’, Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr., described the decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC to peg the filing fee for female aspirants at half the price of their male counterpart as an indication that they are fully in support of former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings’ desire to contest President Mills.
It would be recalled that, a couple of weeks ago, Mrs. Rawlings gave impetus to speculations that she will be running for the highest office of the land by contesting President Mills’ second term bid to lead the NDC in 2012, by resigning her post as one of the Vice Chairpersons of the party.
Prior to that, various people came out to declare their support either for the former first lady or against her candidature.
Lacing his submission with thought-provoking proverbs, the seasoned journalist cynically called on Mrs Rawlings to test the waters by going ahead and contest Prof Mills for the NDC’s flagbearership.
“…it is good she has come forward to declare her intention to contest. She needs to contest so that people will know her ‘smoothness’ level. I wish her good luck, though…I’ll however be disheartened if she pulls out…,” Mr. Pratt said.
He, however, reiterated that no matter who the former First Lady comes up against, she will never secure his (Kwesi’s) vote.
“I will not vote for her and that is my right; I have the right to say that. She should go forward and then we will see what happens thereafter. “Ye tu wu fu na woantie wuko annti adzi” to wit”: When you refuse to heed to good counsel, you will be faced with the consequences thereof.
