Arsenal legen Perry Groves believes the club should cash in on Cesc Fabregas this summer should Barcelona come calling again.

Groves believes Arsene Wenger could then reinvest the funds generated through the Spaniard’s potential sale to take the team to the next level.

“If Barcelona come in for Cesc Fabregas at the end of the season, if you get 40 or 50 million for him, I’d actually let him go,” Groves told talkSPORT.

“Then spend that 40, 50 million on two players you need because Nasri can play in the centre of three, he’s outstanding there for France, Jack Wilshere has emerged and Aaron Ramsey’s coming in.”

The Londoner, who spent six years at Arsenal, believes deep down Fabregas wants to return to Barcelona after leaving the club almost eight years ago.

Groves added: “I think Cesc Fabregas mentally there’s a little bit of him that still wants to go to Barcelona and if that’s the case then say, ‘thanks Cesc, you’ve been a terrific player for us’ and you can use that money like Liverpool did with Torres and spend it on the side.”

Goal.com UK exclusively revealed in March that Arsenal would be open to selling their captain if Barcelona agree to meet their £45 million valuation.

Groves also believes Wenger’s failure to enter the market during the January transfer window was a costly mistake.

“I thought Arsene’s job in the transfer window in January was to go and buy a very strong British centre-half and maybe a combative midfielder,” he said.

“If you put Gary Cahill and Scott Parker in that side Arsenal would have won the title this season.”
