Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that January signing Stephen Ireland will make his debut in tonight’s clash with current table-toppers Manchester United.
The goalscoring Irish midfielder has suffered from knee and thigh injuries since joining the club on-loan from Aston Villa but Pardew is looking forward to seeing him in action.
“Stephen Ireland will be involved in this game and that’s a big bonus because we have been waiting a long time for Stephen,” Pardew told reporters.
“His quality will help us in the last six games for sure. Technical quality – that’s what he brings.”
Ireland, 24, is hoping to secure a permanent move to the club in the summer and Pardew admits the midfielder’s experience could be useful.
He added: “You have got a player who has played at the highest level, and we have waited long for him because of his injuries and setbacks that he’s had.
“But hopefully, that will bear some fruit in the last six games.”
Pardew will have to make due without the suspended Kevin Nolan for the visit of the Red Devils whilst goalkeeper Steve Harper and Shola Ameobi remain doubtful through injury.
