Freetown — In a bid to reach out to all and sundry for a successful golden jubilee celebration, the 50th Anniversary Planning Committee has officially handed over 50 metal boxes to the Sierra Leone Motor Drivers’ Union to enable them raise funds for the celebrations.

The committee’s PR and communications officer, Ahmed Sahid Nasralla (aka De Monk), urged members of the union to give their fullest support to ensure the success of the celebrations.

“This is a historic day for all Sierra Leoneans. It demonstrates the will of our people to contribute to the overall effort of supporting the celebrations. All of this has come from the union, so we are merely assisting them,” he said.

According to Mr. Nasralla, the effort has a two-fold effect which includes raising money for the celebrations and providing a shining example of cooperation between institutions like the Motor Drivers Union and the 50th Anniversary Committee.

“The effort is meant to energize towards developing a more positive perception of the country. The ways of doing this do not necessarily come from those in high places with university degrees,” he stressed.

President of the union, Alhaji Abu Bakarr Fofanah, said they were more than ready to give their fullest support to the committee to ensure successful celebrations.

He pledged the support of each executive member of the different motor drivers’ parks to the celebrations, adding, “We are very much determined to work hand-in-hand with the government and the committee for fruitful celebrations.”

Statement was also made by a member of the national planning committee, Parker Kamara.
