THE GHANA Police Service has spent GH¢568,500 in less than a year on the transfer of personnel across the country.

The police service expends GH¢150 on each personnel affected by the transfer, a police source told DAILY GUIDE on anonymity.

Within the period under review, 668 officers out of the 900 superior officers in the service have been affected by the mass transfer.

Also, more than 3122 junior rank officers across the country have been transferred, causing tension among the rank and file of the police service.

The police service is wasting such huge amounts of money on the transfer of officers at a time that the institution is lacking funds.

The police source said fear has gripped personnel of the police service because of the rampant manner in which they are being transferred from their stations to other parts of the country lately.

Statements such as “the President doesn’t want you at your present station,” “the President says you are not one of them” and “the President says you must go” are excuses given to officers that have been affected by the mass transfer.

The source claimed that an officer at the headquarters of the police service, who boasted that he once served the President and was currently serving as the liaison officer between the President and the IGP, was behind the mass transfer of police officers.

The source, who was worried about this development, implored the President to confirm or deny having a hand in the mass transfer before things get out of hand.
