Tottenham loan Jake Livermore to Leeds United as Bongani Khumalo joins Preston for rest of season

Tottenham Hotspur have loaned Jake Livermore and Bongani Khumalo to Leeds United and Preston North End respectively.

Livermore, 21, has had previous loan spells with Derby County, Leicester City, Peterborough United and Ipswich Town, and joins Simon Grayson’s side as they sit fifth in the Championship.

If Leeds hold onto their current playoff place, Livermore will be granted permission to stay with the club until May 31.

Leeds manager Grayson is delighted to have added a player with substantial Championship experience to his squad.

“Jake is a hungry, young player who has gained good experience at this level with both Derby and Ipswich,” he told the club’s official website.

“We’re at an important stage of the season and he gives us increased competition for places. He is a good addition to our squad.”

Khumalo, meanwhile, joins Preston, who are rooted to the foot of the table and face a battle to stay in the Championship.

The South African defender only arrived at Tottenham in January from Super Sport United, but Preston boss Phil Brown believes Khumalo can make a significant impact and was thankful to Spurs manager Harry Redknapp for allowing the emergency loan move to happen.

“I am absolutely delighted,” Brown told the official Preston North End website. “For a club in our situation, fighting a relegation battle at the bottom of the Championship, to get an international player from Spurs stinks of the quality of the relationship with Tottenham and more importantly my relationship with Harry.

“He has done us a massive favour letting us borrow a player of Bongani’s quality and stature who has come to us on loan until the end of the season.”

Khumalo is currently on international duty with South Africa, who face Egypt at the weekend.
