Black Stars at the World Cup finals

Ghana Football Association officials have brushed talks of a potential captaincy row in the Black Stars camp.

Centre-back John Mensah has deputized since Stephen Appiah called time on international career after the 2010 Fifa World Cup last June.

But the Sunderland defender is yet to be handed the armband permanently.

The Black Stars captaincy destroyed the team when Kwasi Appiah was stripped of the armband and handed to Abedi Pele in 1991.

With this history in mind, measures must be taken by new Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic and crucially Ghana FA officials who know the background of the Black Stars captaincy that created serious divisions in the squad, affecting the talented team for many years.

“Issues about captaincy is not important now. We will look at that at the appropriate time, ” Ghana FA vice president Fred Pappoe told Accra-based Happy FM.
