The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has proposed a law that seeks, among others, life jail term and confiscation of assets of offenders.
Speaking yesterday at the India Pharma brand expo organised by the Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council, NAFDAC’s Director-General Dr Paul Orhii said the proposal, when passed into law, would enable compensation of victims, if counterfeit products were found to be the proximate cause of death or severe body injury.
The proposal, which has received the blessing of the Federal Ministry of Health, is currently being assessed by the Federal Ministry of Justice, after which it would be passed on to the National Assembly for consideration.
