Zsa Zsa Gabor rushed to hospital after hearing news of friend Elizabeth Taylor’s death

The ailing 94-year-old apparently went into hysteria, screaming ‘I’m next!’ after hearing the sad news about her friend of 30 years.

Gabor’s husband, Frederic Von Anhalt told Radaronline website: ‘Zsa Zsa said: ‘Celebrities go in threes and I’m next’.’

Gabor was only just been released from a five-day stay in hospital last month, where she was treated for pneumonia.

Von Anhalt said his wife’s blood pressure ‘went through the roof,’ when told of Taylor’s passing.

The
two screen legends were said to be close friends, and Taylor visited
Gabor at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Centre in Los Angeles last month,
while she was recovering from her recent bout of illness.

Von Anhalt said he was present at the women’s reunion, describing the event as ‘tragic’.

‘It was a tearful reunion and a very sad, tragic goodbye,’ he told RadarOnline.com.

‘Liz sat in her wheelchair beside my wife, who was laying in bed.’

‘They both knew it would probably be the last time they’d see each other, and – with Liz’s death today – it was.’

He said that over the years Taylor and Gabor enjoyed a close relationship.

‘They
were close friends, they were neighbours, and they were also someone
the other could go to, to confide in,’ von Anhalt said.

“They shared a couple of laughs. But after that visit, that was it. They said goodbye, and that was it.’

Taylor passed away from congestive heart failure in hospital last
night having suffered from the condition since November 2004.

She was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles ‘for monitoring’ last month.

Her publicist confirmed: ‘Legendary actress, and fearless activist
Elizabeth Taylor died peacefully today in Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los
Angeles.’

The English-American star, considered one of the great
actresses – and great beauties – of Hollywood’s golden age, was
surrounded by her children: Michael Wilding, Christopher Wilding, Liza
Todd, and Maria Burton.

Dame Elizabeth’s son, Michael Wilding, said in a statement: ‘We will
always be inspired by her enduring contribution to our world.

‘My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humour, and love.

He
added: ‘Though her loss is devastating to those of us who held her so
close and so dear, we will always be inspired by her enduring
contribution to our world.

‘Her remarkable body of work in film, her ongoing success as a
businesswoman, and her brave and relentless advocacy in the fight
against HIV/AIDS, all make us all incredibly proud of what she
accomplished. We know, quite simply, that the world is a better place
for Mum having lived in it.

‘Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts.’

In addition to her children, she is survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gabor, the Hungarian-born star of 1950s movies Moulin Rouge and Touch of Evil, has been suffering from deteriorating health since she was seriously injured in a 2002 car crash.

Gabor, who was a fixture of Hollywood’s social scene, suffered a stroke in 2005, and this past July she had hip replacement surgery.

She had to have her leg amputated last month because of a gangrene infection.

Her worried husband rushed Gabor to hospital in an ambulance last month, after she began spitting up blood.

But according to her publicist John Blanchette, the last of the three Gabor sisters has recently been on the mend after the recent bout of ill health.

He told City News: ‘They did a magnificent job getting her back. They treated her with an aggressive treatment of antibiotics. The doctors said it was 50-50, but it worked.’

Mr Blanchette added: ‘This has been a long, tough road since 2002, when she had an accident that originally disabled her.

‘She has never been able to walk and her health has spiralled down.’

‘But She has kept her sense of humour and she’s a fighter. She always has been.’

A sex symbol of the 1950s and 1960s, Gabor appeared in numerous movies and was a regular on the television special and game show circuit, always with her trademark accent and endearment ‘dahling’.

Born Sari Gabor on February 6, 1917, in Budapest, Hungary, she was unable to pronounce her first name as a child, calling herself Zsa Zsa instead.
