Shekarau states his plan for women

The presidential candidate of the All Nigerian Peoples Party(ANPP) Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has assured women of key positions in his administration, if elected next month.

He spoke when he received an award for his contribution to women emancipation in Abuja. It was at a dinner organised by the Global Women and Youth Empowerment Strategy. The award was in collaboration with the National Group of ANPP.

Shekarau promised that “if given the opportunity to lead Nigeria, women will occupy central positions in my administration.”

Pledging that he was not making empty promises, he said: “We have done it in Kano State,we have promoted the well-being of women, and we have granted women wider opportunities to education. From 2003 on the day of my swearing in, I made it clear that female education will be free and it has been totally free. “We have done a lot of women empowerment and support programmes, and if we did it at the state level, certainly, we can replicate it at the national level”. He added: “With your support, cooperation and understanding, we can sustain the promotion of women because we believe that if we support women to develop and be self-reliant, we are automatically developing the nation.”
