Man held for alleged murder of in-law

A man has killed his brother-in-law over a N1.5 million debt.

Okafor Okereke was said to have killed Basiru, his sister’s husband, over the deceased’s iniability to settle the debt.

Sources said the late Basiru borrowed the money from him and promised to pay back last September.

He said he hoped the money would come in handy for him in December, when he would be having his traditional marriage rites.

On March 1, Basiru visited Okafor’s home and during a discussion, an argument ensued.

This led to a fight, with Okafor allegedly macheting Basiru on the head.

Basiru was said to have died instantly and his body put in a drum and taken to Ejigbo, a suburb of Lagos.

But the suspect was later arrested with the help of Basiru’s wife.

In a statement to the police, he allegedly confessed that he was the one who borrowed the money from the deceased.

To avoid paying back, he drugged Basiru before killing him.

On getting to where the body was dumped, they found that Okafor had cut it into pieces so it can enter the drum.

Police spokesman O.O Jinadu said the police were doing everything to get to the root of the matter.

He said the suspect would be charged to court when investigation is concluded.
