America-based stars Sanna Nyassi, Sainey Nyassi and Kenny Mansally have been included in the Gambia twenty-two man squad which is set to travel to Malabo for a friendly against Equatorial Guinea.
The Major League Soccer players pulled out of the friendly with minnows Guinea Bissau held in Portugal due to club engagement, but are now recalled to the Scorpion team to face the 2011 CAF Nations Cup joint host, Equatorial Guinea, on March 29th.
The MLS was some weeks away from starting as their American clubs heat up for the coming season with an intense pre-season period under a snowy weather. And for this reason, Sainey and Mansally of the Revolution and Colorado Rapid’s Sanna Nyassi did not show up for the test game in which Gambia suffered a 3-1 routing.
Gambia is yet to divulge to the local press the twenty-two list of invited players for the Equatorial Guinea showdown, but it is confirmed to this paper that the twin brothers Sainey and Sanna are part of the short listed players, which also includes six times capped attacking forward Abdoulie ‘Kenny’ Mansally.
Local-based Player and Gambia Ports Authority skipper Abdou Bowyer Njie will be part of the traveling players to the Guinean capital Malabo.
The Paul Put side seeks to redeem its battered reputation at international level, following an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to The Djurtus of Guinea Bissau – a friendly encounter Paul Put traveled with only twelve players. the country’s first internationally uncelebrated sports moment.
However, GFA’s Terema Dahaba confirmed to www.foroyaasports.gm last two weeks that Demba Savage is recalled to the national team after he last appeared in red, blue, white and green colours in 2008 against Liberia in Monrovia.
As a result of the call-up, Sanna will be missing the Rapids game next week against Chivas USA.
Mansally and team-mate, the speedy Sainey Nyassi will leave Boston to join the Gambia National team on 24th March.
