Ernst Middendorp joins South Africa side Golden Arrows
By Patrick Akoto
Ex-Kotoko and Hearts of Oak coach Ernst Middendorp was on Monday appointed to take charge of South African side Lamontville Golden Arrows with just five matches to end the season.
The German tactician takes over from Zoran Filipovic who was relieved of his post following string of defeats in the league.
Middendorp, fired by Maritzburg United last week, has been tasked with the responsibility of turning around the dwindling fortunes of the side and lead the side back into the top eight.
After initial success, where Golden Arrows won five of their first eight fixtures and sat in the top three, the club’s season has imploded.
They have won just two of their previous 18 matches in all competitions, and none of their last nine in the League.
They also exited the Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup in the first rounds.
They currently trail eighth-placed Free State Stars by four points with five games remaining in the season.
