Port Vale have sacked manager Jim Gannon following a spiralling situation that has seen the club drop out of the play-off places in League Two.
The 42-year-old has been relieved of his services after less than three months in charge of the Valiants, although his time at the club has not been short of incident.
Vale made a fantastic start to the season under the stewardship of Micky Adams, but following his departure to Sheffield United the board at Vale Park, who have come in for severe criticism of late, opted to appoint the former Stockport, Motherwell and Peterborough boss.
It has proved to be a short-term tenure, however, as Gannon has now been relieved of his duties with Mark Grew taking caretaker charge for Tuesday night’s clash with Hereford.
Vale went on a four-match unbeaten run at the start of February but a 3-0 defeat at Accrington on Saturday was the last straw.
After the game Exodus Geohaghon confronted angry fans and Gannon was not available for interview, going into hiding as supporters looked to express their discontent in his direction.
Gannon’s team selections have often been questioned by Vale fans, while he was involved in a remarkable incident on 26th February when he left the team bus on the way to a game against Aldershot following a bust-up with assistant Geoff Horsfield.
